Eric Goins is the Pocono Photo Club Photographer of the Month!

How did you become interested in photography?

I spent many years taking pictures in the New York City area with a film camera. But I never found the time to pursue the formal training that guided most photographers. As I drew close to retirement from my career as an Electronic Technician I discovered Digital Photography. I began to take classes and eventually studying on a full time basis.

My passion grew so much for photography that I felt I had to share that knowledge with others. I began teaching a class at The Older Adults Learning Center and that forced me to constantly improve my own photography.

What equipment do you use?

I love my full frame Nikon 750 but lately I find myself using an Olympus OMD1 most of the time when I am out in the world. I find the lighter weight easier to carry around. But for my close work or when I need my flashes, out comes the Nikon.

What is your favorite genre and subject matter?

I love to shoot everything except people. But macro and close up photography are my favorite topics.

How do you challenge yourself to grow as a photographer?

Till this day I still attend classes online and in the classroom. After attending dozens of workshops and seminars, I have begun to explore art history. I believe by better understanding the old masters of painting and photography it will increase my ability to express my unique vision of the world through the images I create.

Would you like to add any additional thoughts?

This series of pictures is a representation of work done over a few years. I constantly find benches in beautiful places usually empty. I photograph them because I always think it's a shame no one is enjoying them.
